PARK’S STRAWBERRIES WITH GROWIN’ BAG

Park’s Strawberries with Growin’ Bag-Lightly moisten a quality potting soil (such as Park’s Grow Mix, Sta-Green, or Miracle Gro) and fill the pouch to within 2 inches of the top, pressing firmly to eliminate air pockets. Lay bag on a flat surface, fold the top over, and secure with tape to keep soil from spilling. Set strawberry plants through the precut T-slits, trimming the roots to 4 or 5 inches if needed. Water thoroughly. Store extra plants in the refrigerator or a cool garage, or plant them in small 3-inch pots.

Allow 1 to 2 weeks for plants to take root, then hang Growin’ Bag in a sunny location. Unfold the top, add more potting soil, and plant 1 or 2 of the extra plants in the top of the bag. Water every few days as needed to keep the soil damp. Use an ice pick to punch extra holes in the bottom and middle of pouch to provide better drainage if needed. Use a water soluble fertilizer, such as Miracle-Gro, according to label directions, during the summer. Remove all but 2 or 3 runners per plant, which can be used to replace the original plants after a year or two.

Winterizing: Growin’ Bag was designed to last for only 1 summer but could be overwintered in zones 8-9 outdoors in a protected spot where it will receive natural rainfall. In zones 5-7, bag must be moved to cold garage with a temperature below 50 degrees F but above freezing. Water lightly every 4 to 5 weeks to keep soil barely damp and move outdoors in early spring.
